Psalm 23 Meditations

Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy, France

Grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus. Isn’t that what we at our core truly need? What we’re truly hungry for?

To bear more of the Fruit of the Spirit and have it be more than a list which we memorize or simply a Bible study that we do?

And when the difficulties come? When the suffering comes?

We feel like we are alone in a wilderness or walking in darkness through the valley of the shadow of death.

You are not alone. You are having a common experience with those who have gone before us. These are fellow sufferers whose experience of being in the wilderness gave them the opportunity to meet the shepherd and guardian of their souls.

Remember them? Hagar. Jacob. Elijah. David. Mary Magdalene. The Samaritan woman at the well. The apostle John.

And Jesus. Jesus himself. His life was one of continual suffering, experiencing particular moments of deep valleys and wilderness.

He ultimately faced death itself, on our behalf, so that we might never experience eternal separation from God.

He invites you to walk with Him.

As you walk through this six-day study of Psalm 23 I invite you to walk with the “Shepherd and Guardian of your soul” (1 Peter 2:25), listening to your shepherd’s voice, as you face your sorrows, fears, anxieties, pain. Draw near to Him through His Word, and He will draw near to you.

He invites you with open hands, not shaking a finger at you.

Come, let me lead you to Him.

This study is set up in six sessions, one per verse and one per day. Anticipate setting aside 20 minutes of quiet, uninterrupted space to enter prayerfully into His presence. You’ll want your Bible, a journal and favorite pen, access to the internet to use the Blue Letter Bible whether through the app or through their website.

You will find this study to have a bit different format than perhaps you are accustomed. You will be reading and rereading the passage, engaging in conversational prayer, looking up a word here and there. I’m inviting you to talk to your shepherd, not simply be thinking about Him.
